The Chandler Fashion Center, owned and operated by Macerich (NYSE: MAC) is a 1.3 million square foot regional mall servicing Chandler, Arizona, one of the fastest growing cities in the country. With more than 75 shopping centers in the United States, Macerich has a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. LOBOS systems are already installed in eight Macerich facilities in Arizona, California, New York, Connecticut and Virginia, and seven additional Macerich buildings in three states are slated for LOBOS upgrades.
Located in a climate where summertime temperatures can reach upwards of 110° Fahrenheit, the Chandler Fashion Center was eligible for efficiency upgrade rebates through their local utility, SRP, but there was a tight deadline in order to qualify. Enerliance worked closely with representatives from SRP and Nexant to make sure that the LOBOS installation would qualify for the rebates. The integration project at the Chandler Fashion Center was completed in a record three-month timeframe from December of 2012 to February of 2013.
The LOBOS integration occurred during the final stages of a comprehensive central plant and air handler upgrade. While integrating LOBOS at the same time as the new equipment was being installed added an extra challenge to the project, the state of the art Trane equipment helped LOBOS to deliver even higher levels of efficiency and comfort.
By completing the project in just three months, the installation was eligible for rebates totaling $168,905. The energy savings have provided over $251,000 in cost savings, thanks in large part to the integration of Enerliance’s LOBOS intelligent HVAC control system.
In terms of reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, the energy savings are equivalent to preserving over 1,000 acres of forest from destruction and a trimming of the center’s carbon footprint by over 1,200 tons.
